How do you know when you are buying a juicy orange?

I cooked a whole pumpkin in the oven yesterday. When it was finished, I scooped out the seeds and was left with a stringy inside. I tried to scrape these out, but gave up. Do you have an easy way to get rid of them or does it even matter if they get left
